Who We Are
OVERVIEW
The Great Lakes Political Academy (GLPA) has been a cornerstone of progressive campaign education in Michigan since its founding in 2013. Over the years, GLPA has trained more than 250 fellows through its intensive and highly regarded programs. Our mission is to empower rising campaign leaders with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in competitive political environments.
Comprehensive Training Programs GLPA offers two primary types of campaign staff fellowship programs known as the general program offered in the Spring each year and the specialization program offered in the fall of odd years.
General Program: This program covers all aspects of campaign management and is designed for those who aspire to manage competitive campaigns successfully.
Specialization Program: This program focuses on a specific campaign areas, equipping participants to lead specialized departments effectively.
Leadership, Education, and Development (LEAD) In 2020, GLPA introduced the LEAD candidate training program, aimed at recruiting and training progressive candidates for state and local offices. Open to both current and aspiring candidates, LEAD offers comprehensive guidance to help participants navigate the complexities of running for office and leading impactful campaigns.
Targeted Training for Specific Roles GLPA also provides specialized training programs tailored to particular roles:
Lead for Justice: A program specifically designed for judicial candidates.
Lead the Future: Focused on preparing candidates for school board positions.
Becoming a Leader & Taking the Lead: These in-person and virtual training programs are ideal for individuals considering a run for office, providing flexible learning opportunities to suit diverse schedules.
