Where do GLPA trainings take place?

GLPA trainings take place at sites rotating between mid-Michigan and Southeast Michigan. The current cohort is taking place in Lansing.

Do GLPA applicants have to live in any particular part of the state?

GLPA recruits statewide and currently trains fellows representing most regions of the state.  GLPA fellows are expected to attend the once-a-week sessions in person, though distance learning alternatives are available on a case-by-case basis.

How much does the GLPA-LEAD programs cost?

The GLPA program is free for accepted fellows.  The LEAD candidate trainings are $50 per day.

How long does the GLPA program take to complete?

The general program spans 3 months, the local elections externship spans 2 months, and the specialization program spans 2 months. Following graduation, fellows are placed with advisers who work with them through the remainder of the election cycle.

If I graduate from GLPA am I guaranteed to get a job?

GLPA does not guarantee jobs, but to this point 100% of fellows who have graduated have acquired jobs in their desired field.

How many GLPA fellows are in the program at any given time?

GLPA trains about 50-60 fellows per election cycle.

How many cohorts are in the GLPA program?

There are two cohorts per election cycle. The 2022 cohort will begin training in February 2022. Applications are currently being accepted on a rolling basis.

What are the acceptance criteria for GLPA applicants?

Fellows are selected on the basis of campaign and organizing experience, leadership skills, and potential to master content requisite for campaign leadership. Applicants should be available to work full time beginning the spring of 2022. 

Who decides which GLPA applicants are accepted to the program?

Applicants are assessed by a selection committee that recommends interviews for the most qualified applicants.  Interviews are then conducted between the applicant and a representative of the GLPA and a representative from the associated funding organization. Applicants are selected following their interviews.

Is there an age limit for GLPA applicants?

There is not an age limit for applicants.

Is the GLPA partisan?

The GLPA is not directly partisan but is committed to developing and mentoring future progressive leaders in Michigan.

What type of legal entity is GLPA?

GLPA is a 501(c)(4) registered in the state of Michigan.
